Sent an email to a campus recruiter who was also a designer/staff member. A month later I received an invitation for a one on one phone interview with a designer. There was a lot of shifting around in scheduling and my interviewer admitted they weren't prepared to conduct an interview that day because it was so last minute. I didn't think my interview went well and thought that was the end of it. A week later, I got an invitation for a second phone interview. Scheduling was a lot better but still the interviewer was pressed for time. Conversation went smoothly and a week after that I was invited to an on-site interview in San Francisco. Had to apply online IBM, do a 1-2 hour IQ test as a formality, then a week later I was flown up on a red eye to meet the rest of the team. My full day interview was the next day, but I didn't receive details for the daily itinerary or what to prep until 10pm that evening. Again, trying to work out a lot of last minute scheduling on their end because that's the nature of a start-up team/busy busy people in the midst of putting something together great. That was the only bummer – I found out rather late what the requirements were / what to prep in the presentation that I was a bit overwhelmed because it differed so much from what we were taught in school (to keep things simple, concise, short.) Interview began right away walking into a panel of the entire design team. Gave my portfolio presentation, followed up by a series of 1 on 1 interviews, pair interviews, lunch with the team, and a design test. Minus mixups in the schedule and going off itinerary, all interviews went smoothly, the design test I was told I'd be allotted 60 minutes, but with scheduling being frantic, really ended up having to give a presentation on what I worked on for 20 min. When leaving, nobody mentioned next steps and other than a follow up to my thank you email never heard back. Hotel, flight, all expenses were reimbursed by Big Blue. Exhausting, long day w/ back to back meetings, lots of talking. But really great folks, very hospitable people+environment, overall great experience! Just didn't work out, job wasn't for me, no hard feelings.
