Bringing the course to the business meeting, not the business meeting to the course. SSOE in Nashville's third annual mini-golf tournament was a hole-in-one for office camaraderie! We swapped spreadsheets for scorecards and transformed our office into a nine-hole extravaganza. May is Asian American, Native Hawai'ian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, a celebration of the contributions and influence they’ve made to the history and culture of the U.S. This year's theme is "Advancing Leaders Through Innovation." Our own Candice Harrison, MA recently guest-starred on The Soul of the Glass City podcast as part of the WGTE Public Media series Voices Around Us. A Toledo native, Candice has dedicated her career to uplifting the community that raised her, ultimately finding her way at SSOE as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Since joining our firm in 2022, her influence has been nothing short of transformative. Progression is in session. SSOE integrated architecture, engineering, and interior design for the transformative construction of the Spartanburg County Courthouse in South Carolina. The project team incorporated a modern narrative that can accommodate future growth in this iconic municipal edifice—a testament to Spartanburg’s vibrant future. Despite construction being adjacent to the existing building on the same site, the team kept the doors open, ensuring that justice never sleeps. The new courthouse, a sprawling 340,000 square feet, incorporates state-of-the-art jury assembly and deliberation rooms, a secure Sherriff’s holding area, a streamlined Clerk of Courts department, and versatile courtrooms dedicated to Circuit, Family, Probate, Magistrate, and Municipal Courts. Lean in Design: We’re excited to have several of our Lean design champions present at the SSOE-sponsored LCI Lean in Design Forum May 1st – 2nd in Chicago! Reaching milestones in the Magic City: SSOE is overseeing MEP engineering on the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s new 11-story inpatient rehabilitation facility in the city’s downtown, which recently topped out. Located just 10 minutes from our local office, this new 346,000 SF facility is expected to be completed in 2025 and promises high standards in healthcare. #SSOEsoutheast
Today, Our Toledo office’s Employee Club celebrated Earth Day with a no-plastics lunch. Everything on the menu—from pizza to cannoli—was consumed by hand and anything left was recyclable. The cost of lunch was a $5 donation with proceeds benefiting Metroparks Toledo. After lunch, employees at all offices had the opportunity to virtually play The Climate Game—hosted by SSOE’s Sustainable Design Strategy Group—where players attempt to reach net zero by 2050 through three rounds of high-stakes team decisions. #EarthDay #SSOEcares
