Overall, I had an amazing interview experience with Yelp. My recruiter Kai was actually the best recruiter I have ever had. She was super responsive, kind, and unfailingly generous with her time. From our first phone call, she let me know that she was around to answer my questions no matter what. We had an easygoing chat before she passed along a challenge that I could complete at my own pace. Once I submitted my challenge, it only took a week for them to look it over and let me know that I had moved on to the next round. (With a lot of communication in between to let me know what was happening.) A few days later my next round video call was schedule for the following week. This was a relatively easy metrics questions, although I had a strange feeling my interviewer was specifically trying to nudge me towards an answer which made it more like a guessing game rather than a real thought process. In the future, I feel like interviewers should try to embrace the multiple answers rather than (kindly, but unhelpfully!) pushing you towards one specific "right" answer. After that interview, I received an offer and as soon as I let Kai know she did her best to coordinate with me so I could finish out the process before my offer deadline. She was very responsive and helpful even through the Thanksgiving holiday which was above and beyond what I was expecting. We were able to schedule an onsite interview a few days before my offer deadline. The onsite interview was a little stressful. Four 30 minute back-to-back interviews. It was nice to notice that many of the interviewers had been picked specifically to tailor towards my data science background. That made it feel much more personal and I definitely appreciated it! Again, I felt like the interviewers had a specific "answer" in mind to some more open-ended questions which felt weird. I kept getting nudged one way or another rather than it begin a thought exercise, so it again sometimes became a bit of a guessing game. Kai promptly got back to me ~48 hours after my onsite to let me know they were moving forward with other candidates. However, she was also very open to giving me feedback and letting me know that the APM pool had a lot of competitive candidates and there were just too few spots since it was close to the end of the recruiting cycle. I appreciated that she let me know the reason that I didn't get an offer and didn't just ignore me after I was rejected (which has happened pretty often). Overall, Yelp has a great culture that I thought was really warm and welcoming. I think that I will definitely keep them in mind for future opportunities as I advance in my career and I highly recommend applying to them!
