Long. It takes a long time to just get the process itself running, even when you are told they want to move you forward. What is most frustrating however, is that they waste external candidates time when they have internal candidates also interviewing - IMHO the deck is stacked against you the moment that occurs. You can't compete effectively against internal knowledge. With VMware it has happened to me twice now and both times I've lost out.
