      Entretien

Filled out application then got a call one week later from a recruiter to set up a phone interview with her. Two days later I had a 30 minute phone interview with the recruiter to screen me and make sure I was articulate, smart, educated, and knowledgable of the procedures and laws regarding handling auto injury claims in Texas. The recruiter then emailed me an official application (yes you have to fill out another application) which I sent in that same day. One week later I received a phone call from the recruiter asking me to Skype interview with claims managers in San Antonio. Two days later I had the Skype interview with two claims managers. This interview lasted one hour. They asked me general and job related questions, clearly scripted questions but they were polite and nice. The day after the Skype interview the recruiter called asking for me to take a urine drug test and give USAA permission to do a criminal social and credit background check. I e-signed the background check forms and took my pee test that same day. The background check took over 3 weeks. USAA was missing one college transcript for two French classes I took years ago as a hobby. "Corporate Security" at USAA told me they had my university transcript showing all courses and grades for classes leading up to my BA graduation but they were not moving forward until they received the French class transcripts. Frustrating. I got the college to mail the French class transcript to USAA and one week after my first conversation with "Corporate Security" they called me back and told me there were problems with my credit check. I owed $3k on a 10-year old credit card debt that I had forgotten about and stopped receiving collection notices about over 4 years ago. Corporate Security stated I needed to pay the $3k balance in full in order to proceed with my application and receive a contingent offer of employment. I told the Corporate Security rep at USAA that I didn't have $3k at my disposal and I couldn't pay the entire balance. I asked what else I could do as I really wanted the job and all other background check items came back approved. I was told I had to pay the $3k or my application would be declined. The same day I contacted the old debtor and got the amount reduced to $2k which I still couldn't afford. I arranged monthly payments of $200 for 10 months and obtained a written agreement letter from the debtor. I called Corporate Security at USAA and told them the above. I faced them the payment agreement letter from the debtor and two days later I was approved and given a contingent job offer. I took the offer as it started out at $49,500 per year with a $2,500 sign on bonus. I regret not asking USAA if they operated in a call-center business model where you are tied to your phone literally 7.5 hours out of an 8 hour workday. I learned quickly that even at my level in the industry, that I am considered a call-center representative. So, I have to take all phone calls from my customers and also from my coworkers customers if they want to speak to someone right away. It's too difficult to take calls like an operator all the time while still having to do your primary job functions of adjusting your claims. It's busy, everyone works at least 50 hours a week and I haven't had one weekend there that I haven't worked since I've been there (and my scheduled workdays are Monday through Friday.).
