      Overall a very strange interview process. It started out with a phone conversation with the recruiter who asked me general questions about my resume and background as well as my salary expectations (which he told me my expectations are definitely within the range of the position). A couple weeks later I got an invite for a video interview. During this first video interview the three interviewers asked me questions about my background, knowledge of Toyota and their products as well as what skills I could bring to the team. When I attempted to ask a few questions I was told that I was not allowed by the hiring manager and that maybe there would be time at the end of the interview. I thought this was strange, but agreed to wait until the end. At the end of their questions, they started to wrap up the call, so I asked if I could still ask my questions about the position since we had only talked about me and I had not learned one new piece of information about the position. They allowed me to ask questions for about 90 seconds and then promptly ended the interview right at our 45 minute mark. I left this interview with no new information about the position and all of my questions unanswered. Because of how abruptly the first video interview went I did not think I would hear back, but I ended up receiving an invite for a second interview, this time with two interviewers, the hiring manager and a member of his team. The hiring manager was pretty short and cold throughout the call and when I tried to ask questions he looked at me and laughed for asking and said once again, "We might have time at the end for some of your questions," just as he had stated in the first interview. I was eager to ask some questions and learn more about a job that would require me to move to Texas for but it was made clear by the hiring manager's response that this was unimportant to them and the interview is their time to ask questions, not mine. While I was in the middle of answering one of his questions, the hiring manager even stood up and walked out of the room to check on his barking dog. I found that pretty unprofessional even in work from home times. The second interview did not stray far from the first, more STAR format questions and questions regarding my experience. I had now had 2 hours of video interviews with a combined total of 5 minutes for me to ask questions. Again, this call ended with no new information about the position and almost all my questions remaining unanswered. The continual dodging of any of my questions was a huge red flag. I wrapped up the second interview feeling very uncertain about my potential manager's attitude and personality and quite frankly at this point I was turned off and started to lose interest in the position because of who I would be reporting to. To my surprise, I received a third video interview where I would complete a writing assignment and present it to the panel. I did not know this, however, until an hour before the call when I got an email apologizing they forgot to give me the preparation materials and were sending them over. The hiring manager was 20 minutes late to the interview so the second member of the interview panel got me started on the assignment. I had 15 minutes to solve a hypothetical problem, write my solution and present my case. After my presentation, the interviewers made a few remarks and ended the call. This interview was designed to show your problem solving skills. About a week later I received an offer from the recruiter I originally spoke with. I was surprised to receive an offer, not due to my qualifications or performance but because the overall impression I had from the team and hiring manager was so cold. The offer came in a lot lower than my salary expectations, which during our first call he assured me was in the range for the position. I asked if it was negotiable and he said absolutely. I came back with a counter offer and he got back to me saying they wouldn't budge a dollar. According to him there is a team at Toyota that decides compensation and this is what they pay everyone in this role, take it or leave it. I guess everyone they hire must have the same background, experience and skillset since they are all payed the same. He spoke a lot about "internal equity" and how competitive the offer was. He was also unable to explain to me how their bonus structure worked. It was not difficult to decline the offer and I left feeling strange about the company due to the hiring manager's personality and interview style. He arrived late, left the room while I was talking, would not let me ask questions and overall had demeaning behavior. All of this for a job I would need to relocate for. This was my first experience where it seemed like a company didn't care to put its best foot forward or want you to interview them at all. The overall vibe I got was "if you don't take this the next guy will. We're Toyota, everyone wants to work here."
