Entretien
A recruiter reached out to me via email and we spoke over the phone. Several days later, I spoke with an engineering manager for about 30 minutes, also on the phone. Positive conversation, though they seem narrow minded about the technology they use and I found it difficult to gauge what exactly they are looking for the position.
Immediately afterward, I received an email with the technical exercise and a deadline. No one asked me about my timetable before sending me the exercise, but I went ahead with it. The exercise was described as the entire technical criteria for the process. It was a straightforward web engineering task, and I was asked to use vanilla JavaScript throughout. I was thorough when completing the exercise and felt fine about what I sent in.
About a week later, I received an impersonal rejection form email. There were no details or feedback, and there was no further communication from anyone at the company.
Generic first phone interview with a Salesforce recruiter based overseas. Asked me very generic corporate questions like “Give me a scenario where you have worked with another team” and other questions like that. Wasn’t technical at all.

First interview was with two technical people and you get asked some basic questions about JavaScript and the browser.
- Second interview you are asked to review a Pull Request from a junior. The code is poor and has lots of bugs.
My recruiter said I didn’t pass the technical test, and gave no feedback or reason as to why.
I only had a call with the recruiter that lasted about 30 minutes. Seems to have went well and was asked pretty standard questions to see if my skills matched the job posting. Nothing out of the ordinary and my experience did match the skills and years they were looking for. Was told I would get some reply the following week but never did get either a confirmation about proceeding to the next step in the interview or a rejection. Kind of disappointing that even if rejected, the recruiter never bother to email back.

Entretien
The interview process starts with a couple of phone calls with two different hiring managers. One is an informal and informative conversation about Slack, and the other is a short technical screen where you are asked both behavioral and technical questions (no coding).
The next step is a 1-week take home project where you are asked to build a toy feature for Slack. There's nothing crazy about it, as long as you have a decent understanding of React. I ended up taking the full week, but others may only need a day or two to finish it. This is the only code you will write through the entire interview process.
The onsite comprised of four sections - one behavioral, two technical, and a hiring manager chat, before finally following up with a recruiter. This was where Slack left a really positive impression on me. I felt none of the usual pressure that comes with an onsite interview, largely due to the fact that there were no painful live coding sessions. The technical sections instead revolve around high level component design and web architecture as well as a short review of your take home project. The behavioral questions are fairly typical, perhaps centered around teamwork and collaboration.
Overall, to me the interview process felt "easy" in the sense that it wasn't stressful at all. As far as the technical portions go, if you deeply understand front end development best practices and browser technologies, you will have little difficulty tackling the problems presented.
