      Entretien

      The person I interviewed with seemed really friendly- but some of the questions made me really uncomfortable. While I was asked some questions about my skills and background, I was also asked questions like if I would need to use their health benefits and my age. I have not waited long enough to hear back since my phone interview was yesterday- but I don’t think this is where I’d want to work. Despite the friendly demeanor and the interesting opportunity- I don’t think these questions are things to ask during round one of interview.

      The last thing I wanted to do, was to make you feel uncomfortable during our 10-minute phone interview. If I did that, I apologize. I start with a phone interview so we can get to know you and to make sure we can meet your job expectations. The questions I asked every candidate was: 1.) Tell me a little more about you, that your resume doesn’t already say. 2.) What strengths do you think you will bring that will help you with this role? 3.) Do you have QuickBooks Experience? 4.) Why are you leaving your current job? 5.) Do you have any questions or concerns about working here? 6.) What is your salary & health insurance requirements? The first three questions are asked to review your qualifications. The final three questions are asked to make sure we can meet your job requirements. There is no reason to ask how old you are, so we don’t ask the age of any applicant. I really appreciate you leaving this feedback. I believe that criticism is the best gift you can give someone… because it allows all of us to be better. Thanks, and good luck on your job search. ~ Bryan Sebring

      Step 1: Brief phone interview. The purpose was mainly to get some information regarding my background and get a sense of my personality. Step 2: in-person interview. I was interviewed by the Owner, Co-Owner, and the Office Manager I would be replacing. Not going to lie, it is a rather intense interview. Different questions coming from three different people. But it was not overwhelming. In fact the best part of this interview is that they really attempt to get to know you as a person. How you work, what your goals are, what kind of environment you thrive in, etc. They seem to customize the questions for the person they are interviewing which is helpful in finding the right person. If you seemed compatible in your interview, step 3: a personality assessment. Again, this company is passionate about ensuring a beneficial fit for both parties. I'm sure there are many people who would find this unappealing. However, I enjoyed someone taking the time to actually get to know me. It's better to find out if someone is a good fit at the beginning than to waste months trying to mold them.
