The phone interview and face-to-face interview both consist of typical behavior-description interview questions. The phone interview occurred first, and included some general background questions, why I was interested in Liberty Mutual and moving to Boston, how I came to work in the insurance industry. The interviewer was a female and very friendly and outgoing. I did well enough on that interview to merit a face-to-face interview with the hiring manager a day and a half later.
The interview took place at Liberty's location in downtown Boston, in the hiring manager's office. It had a very conservative corporate atmosphere--the manager even said, "We're in suits five days a week here." The offices were very quiet and everyone was working quietly at their desks, although the manager assured me that lots of collaboration and discussion takes place in conjunction with the job.
The first interview question at the face-to-face interview was very similar to one I answered in the phone interview. After some brief discussion of general corporate info (recent company activities, etc.), the manager appeared to JUST NOW be reading my resume during the interview and realized that my experience was in a different line than the line he was hiring for. (I went back and re-read my own resume after the interview to make sure I had clearly explained what lines I was experienced in. It was very clear.) After he realized that, and even said it out loud ("Oh, wait. So all your experience is in [Line A] instead of [Line B]?"), the questions got very cursory and he stopped writing down my responses. I got the generic decline email three days later.
