A recruiter from Klarna got in touch with me around July 2015.
We scheduled a skype meeting in order to get a brief introduction of Klarna and what the risk team is with the data pipeline developer position, and how they are handling their system to crunch data on the risk department.
After that skype interview, a pair programming interview was scheduled. Instead of doing it through skype, I kindly asked if it was possible to do it on site. The interview was scheduled in their offices and basically you sit down with another engineer trying to solve a technical programming problem using a shared laptop. I really enjoyed this part, and the interviewer was quite positive during the whole assignment and quite collaborative.
The recruiter got back after this interview, with feedback from the previous step. They felt that probably I was better suited for a software engineer role, so the process continued to follow this track. Another onsite interview was scheduled, this time with one of the VP managers.
Here is when my view of the company changed quite drastically at this phase of the process. In this step, we started to discuss about my interests, previous experience and side projects which later led into a more technical interview.
He asked questions to discuss technical scenarios regarding development and even some whiteboard coding was involved.
The interviewer, showed a contrary personality from the first interviewer. Basically, at this stage he began to show no interest on my way of thinking or skills, and he started to give a harsh feeling during the interview where he seemed to indirectly mock on my mistakes. Pretty much after this stage, I felt treated quite unprofessionally when I left the building.
The recruiter got back after this interview phase, and told me that unfortunately they will not continue with me. He was a bit surprised it did not go well but the recruiter was quite eager to keep in touch for the future.
I must say that I was eager to work in klarna but after my interview with the manager, it really changed my image of the company. It really reflected, what other people pointed out in the negative reviews of working in the company.
Definetely, after this experience I would think twice before working there.
