      Entretien pour Entry Level Hubspotter

J'ai postulé via la recommandation d'un employé. J'ai passé un entretien chez HubSpot (Boston, MA) en déc. 2016

      Entretien

I applied to Hubspot through an employee referral. I got the video interview which was awkward, but I think it well after I practiced it a few times. A week later, I got an email from Kelsey, who wanted to set up a time for me to speak with Holly. I read so many reviews praising Holly but this wasn't my experience with her. She called me a week later. The interview itself was usual, ie describe your current work position and past. There weren't any questions about my personality or anything I do outside of work, which is interesting considering the company is so big on "culture." Holly made me feel like she had better things to do then talk to me on the phone about a position that I was applying for. She even made a comment about me applying to a few different positions at Hubspot, which made me feel embarrassed. If I got another constructive reason for the rejection other than some ridiculous template, maybe I could stop applying or try to learn the new skills that they are requiring. She told me to her email her with any questions, but no one provided an email address and I couldn't find it anywhere. This also meant that I couldn't send a follow up email, which I usually do after interviews. She also said she'd be in touch with me in a few days after speaking to the hiring managers, and if there was anything else she would like me to tell them. I said briefly how I was passionate about Hubspot and the role. I wake up this morning to an email back from a noreply email. It's some generic email about they were moving forward with other candidates, and not even signed by Holly. I don't want this review to come off as sour that I didn't get the position because I was overqualified for the job - I wanted an entry level position to get my foot in the door at Hubspot, but not anymore. I also was looking to be in the marketing department - not necessarily tech support. I have about a year of marketing experience - so I am just shy of the requirements for the marketing roles, hence my application in this role. Also - the 35K non-negotiable salary is low. I can't believe I was about to take a pay cut to come work here. The company seems like they care about their potential employees, but the way that they handled me doesn't show that at all, and the lack of Holly's signature or anyone's for that matter on a rejection email screams unprofessional.

Hi there - thanks for taking the time to write this up. It's clear that we missed the mark on a number of areas and there are some invaluable learnings for our team on the standard we should constantly be upholding in how we treat candidates interviewing with us. You're correct that we take our company culture very seriously - but with that focus comes a risk of only hiring people who partake in the same extra-curriculars or those we like socially versus those who are best qualified for the job and who would bring a diverse way of thinking in the context of our challenges and goals as a company. Knowing that risk, we are deliberate in asking candidates questions that allow us to learn more about their skills, experience, and potential to thrive professionally at HubSpot versus personal attributes. The communications you received from us after your phone interview is a far cry from our standard of candidate experience and I'm incredibly disappointed that we fell short here. I'm using this as a learning opportunity for the recruiter you spoke with and our entire team so that, going forward, we can ensure that any candidate who speaks with someone on our team hears directly from the recruiter you spoke to with the opportunity for personalized feedback. With that, I'd really like it for you to get some comprehensive feedback on your own candidacy. If you're open to it, please email me at beckym at hubspot dot com and we can connect on whether you'd like feedback from Holly or if you'd prefer to chat with someone on our Marketing team to learn a bit more about what skills and experience we look for. Again, I deeply appreciate you taking the time to write a review despite the outcome - it's a huge learning for us. - Becky

I had a 3-step interview process that consisted of a brief phone call followed by a zoom demo consisting (quick chat and mock customer support call) and finished it off with an on-site 2 hour interview with 3 managers. The whole process was quick and efficient with awesome hiring managers that were very communicative and responsive. I had an awesome experience and would recommend anyone on the job hunt to apply to HubSpot.

They were looking to hire quickly - so the process was expedited. Interviewed late one week, and was interviewing in-person in the middle of the next week. (I am not local, I drove 6+ hours to be there) They had me interview with a few different people. Most of them were very pleasant. (Especially Caroline Ostrander & Lauren DeSoiza. Lauren in particular was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable.) One of them, a former Apple Store manager, was not. Ultimately, the day after the in-person interview I was informed via e-mail that I was not offered the job. Disappointing, but not the end of the world. In the e-mail, I was told that they would provide some feedback on my interview performance if I wanted it. I figured that might be useful so I obliged. I e-mailed my HR contact asking for interview feedback. No response. I waited 7 days, and e-mailed him again. He replied this time and apologized, stating that he was very busy and got caught up with some other things. Okay. He gave me a date and time when he would call me back the next day. No call. I e-mailed again. No response. I attempted to call him a few times and left a message. No response. And each time I called, his phone went directly to voicemail, no matter the time of day I was calling. Not entirely sure why they say they offer interview feedback if they are obviously not actually interested in providing it. That and Apple store manager guy really soured me on my experience.

      Question 1

They asked a lot about customer service experience naturally. Also had me do a demo exercise with their website. It's been a little while, so I don't remember many specific questions that were asked.

Be ware! Things will move along quickly and then all of a sudden come to a halt. They pride themselves on having a great company culture but overlook highly qualified candidates who possess a substantial education and willingness to learn. The process is thought to be great initially when you go through the interviews and they will move you along. If one of the managers doesn't care for your style of answering questions or is intimidated by you, good luck moving on and getting an offer from the last round. Very false facade of what they preach and actually represent.

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to write a review and I'm sorry that you felt that your interview experience wasn't consistent throughout. Our goal is to be incredibly thoughtful about the methods by which we evaluate candidates' fit for the role, including considering feedback from a cross-section of interviewers with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Any decision made would be inclusive of the entire interview team, and includes a thorough debrief process. Regardless, I want to ensure our team is learning from candidates' experiences and will be sure you take your feedback back to the team. Thanks so much for investing the time to interview with us and best of luck in your next steps. Best, Becky
