Writing my statement so that other candidates don't flush this great opportunity like I did.
Contacted by sourcer which placed some simple technical questions (web, unix). Then phone call with engineer with more in-depth technical questions (system design, data formats comparision, client-facing situation, problem-solving). Then two 45-min hangouts interviews: a) coding, b) peer.
On peer interview, questions about some google products, how to avoid certain pages to show up on ads, client-facing situations, HTTP, crawling, explain technologies stated on my resumé. I did good here.
On coding, two basic exercises (strings and arrays). I took more than 30 min to deliver both solutions, with one or two bugs (the interviewer pointed the lines, and I fixed). I was slow and revealed that I was nervous. I suspect another exercise was coming and, since I haven't got there, a red flag was raised.
Make sure you're used to program without a compiler, and exercise a couple of timed training interviews with some colleagues. Strengthen basics, I was prepared for maze finding problems and minimum spanning tree in graphs, when I was simply asked to merge strings...
