      Entretien pour Trainee Payroll Specialist

      Entretien

After a first interview and online test I was invited to attend an assessment day together with all other candidates. I was not that impressed by this company: led on a trip through their huge building I do not remember coming across one single black employee. In addition to this during one of the tests a candidate made unpleasant remarks on my accent and in spite of that this candidate was allowed to stay and go on through the recruitment process...not impressed at all, would not be happy that money coming from my efforts went into the pockets of certain people!

      Entretien

I have interviewed with ADP twice now as they are local to me. I feel their interview process is one of the most unpleasant and inefficient ones I’ve experienced. I interviewed once a few years ago and once again recently but have only done the virtual interview so far. The interview process is a virtual interview first and then an assessment day where everyone who has done well at the interview is invited to do group activities etc and are shown around. I feel the interview questions are worded awkwardly and some Qs have 2 or 3 parts to the question. It would make it easier for the interviewee who is already nervous, if you just asked them as separate questions or ask follow up questions so they don’t have to remember all parts of the question while also trying to answer the question well. Assessment day is also not a good indicator of who would be best suited to the job in my opinion. I was unsuccessful the first time and wasn't bothered as I have a better offer from another company but I did feel it’s ADPs loss to not have me, I am normally a humble and modest person but one thing I am confident about is that I work extremely hard to be an excellent employee and I pride myself in the fact that I am a valued member of staff where I work and I feel this is probably the case with a lot of other people who are unsuccessful back then. Another issue is that this is an entry level role, and while yes they don’t expect payroll experience, from the interview questions it is very clear they do expect you to have a lot of existing work experience in other sectors and the salary is not reflective at all of the kind of experience and skills they are expecting you to bring. If the salary jumps a lot after the first year then it’s acceptable otherwise not worth it at all unless you live round the corner like I do and save time and money with the commute which is why I applied. I feel from ADPs process that they miss out on a lot of excellent candidates. The interview process is set up in a way that mostly very extroverted people, who are very overbearing and with a lot of existing work experience would succeed. I say this because the people who were told they were successful on the assessment day were like this and from working in a group with those same people I could tell they were not very competent and they were difficult to work with for the group activities. This also made me wonder what the working environment would be like at ADP if the people who succeeded were like that. Lastly I feel the assessment day is unnecessarily long and not at all a pleasant experience. Personally I much prefer just having an interview and if you want to be really picky just get people to do some sort of online written or practical assessment. Our time and energy is just as precious as yours is. People have to take time off work and for someone like me whose workplace are very strict about time off this is extremely difficult. It would be better if you continue with this that it is kept to a maximum of 2 hours first thing in the morning so that at least people don’t have to take the full day off work.

ADP hiring process was well structured, unique and very organised. The academy invite event was very interesting. I've never experienced this before. It was fun, engaging and inspiring at the same time.
