The best of the vest 🦺 After reaching a longevity milestone, Black & Veatch Employee Owners become fully vested in the company's Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). A few times each year, we hold a recognition ceremony where they receive a commemorative vest to celebrate this accomplishment together. These vests represent the long-term commitment that each professional has made to our company and the recognition that we play on a large team, for each other. And what better time for such an event than during Employee Ownership Month? Check out the photos from the recent celebration! Want to become vested? You have to work here first! At our recent Global Leadership Summit in Kansas City, we paused to take a photo of the incredible mosaic of our leaders from across the company using a remote-controlled aerial drone. And while drone photography may now be commonplace, our team has found more uses for drones to push our safety culture forward. Kristopher Lankford, MS, CSP, one of our team members at Overland Contracting Inc., explained how drones were used to safely “access” elevated work so tower climbing professionals had safe access/egress and could safely work at heights without putting another professional in harm’s way. Its success prompted other areas of the company to embrace drone capabilities including drone mapping, aerial imaging to plan storm response, new site evaluation to develop work safety plans, safety audits in difficult-to-reach locations, and workforce training through digital media that unites our field training and evaluation teams. From a simple group photo to dozens of applications that enhance Safety and drive Innovation across our organization, drones are part of how we’re leading clients into the future. The Leadership Summit was also an opportunity to celebrate the people and actions that move our culture forward with two awards given by Chairman and CEO Mario Azar.
While our professionals at Bird Electric Enterprises, LLC are hard at work restoring power for utility customers impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the rest of Black & Veatch is also pitching into recovery efforts. Teams from Overland Contracting Inc. delivered close to 10,000 bottles of water and other vital hydration supplies to a church serving locals in the Boone, North Carolina, area. Black & Veatch professional Garret Hooper took to the skies to help deliver crucial supplies with Operation Airdrop Inc, flying from Westchester, Pennsylvania, to northwestern North Carolina. Another Black & Veatch professional, Valerie Antaki, got the whole family in on the act, driving supplies from Georgia to South Carolina, where residents at the time were still without power, water, gas, and other essentials. I am grateful to these team members for embodying our organizational values, and to everyone who has contributed to relief efforts. Thank you for all that you do!
