What makes a job feel truly meaningful? At Atria Forest Hills in Queens, New York, it’s about more than just tasks on the checklist. It’s about being part of something that genuinely changes lives. From the kitchen team to department leaders, everyone works together to create a community that feels like home – and that kind of teamwork doesn’t go unnoticed. A place where families feel the difference That dedication shows in how families feel about the care their loved ones receive. When Lynn visits her sister Karen – who lives at Atria Forest Hills – she’s not just stepping into a clean, well-run community. She’s walking into peace of mind. As a retired nurse, Lynn knows quality care when she sees it. “I’m never gonna move her,” she told Executive Director Bill Deignan. “Because I know she’s safe here.” Why team members love working here Atria Forest Hills has a trophy case full of Quality (Q) Awards – the kind that reflect real results in safety, cleanliness, emergency response and overall care. Deignan’s team has earned three of them in just three and a half years. “You can’t win something like that alone,” Deignan says. “It takes everyone buying in – from the directors to the people working behind the scenes. One person doesn’t win a Q Award. The whole team does.”

When Ian Steinmetz first walked through our doors at Holiday Redbud Hills in Bloomington, Indiana, he was simply looking for a part-time job. What he found was something much more valuable: a sense of purpose, meaningful relationships and a promising career path. Now a recent high school graduate, Ian has become one of the most beloved team members, earning recognition not just from his manager but from residents who ask daily, “Is Ian working tonight?” From basketball courts to service excellence Ian’s path to senior living took an unexpected turn during high school. While his initial dreams centered around playing basketball, he eventually found himself in a team manager role that opened his eyes to something powerful: the impact of behind-the-scenes service. “It taught me that service is not only about offering my help; it’s about putting the needs of others above my own.” That early lesson in service would become invaluable when a friend invited him to join the team at Redbud Hills.

For Jill Biondo, Senior Engage Life Director at Atria Seville in Nevada, the small moments that can brighten a resident’s day are never taken for granted. Her personal mantra, “I never want a missed opportunity,” reflects the deep commitment she brings to her role and the people she serves.Jill got to work, creating a card filled with heartfelt messages from dozens of residents and team members, each one sharing warm wishes and fond memories with Joe. Then came the showstopper: a video of his favorite song, “Sweet Caroline,” performed by his favorite entertainer at Atria Seville. “It’s about being present,” Jill says. “Time is of the essence, and we want to be there for our residents – especially when they may need it the most.” That mantra came to life recently when longtime Atria Seville resident Joe K. made a big move to Atria at the Arboretum in Texas to be closer to his family. Joe was a beloved presence at Atria Seville, known for his warmth and quick wit – and the genuine bonds he formed with everyone around him. His absence was felt immediately by both residents and staff. And while Joe was settling into his new home, he couldn’t help but miss the familiar faces and daily rhythms of life at Atria Seville. So, when Jill learned that one of her colleagues – Kerrie Anastassatos, a Divisional Engage Life Director – would soon be traveling to Atria at the Arboretum, and that Joe had been feeling a bit homesick, she saw the perfect moment to do something special.

At Atria, uncommon hospitality is what sets truly exceptional senior living apart. The moment I walked into Holiday Forsyth Court, I could feel the difference,” says Amy Willsey-Keefe, Quality Enhancement Director at Atria Senior Living. “A singer was performing for residents, music was playing and people were up dancing. The team looked confident – I could tell they were well-prepared.” That energy helped drive an outstanding performance in Atria’s rigorous Quality Enhancement (QE) audits. Holiday Forsyth Court not only earned a coveted Q Award, but also achieved one of the most significant score improvements in recent history. This achievement highlights how QE has strengthened Holiday by Atria, making it an exceptional place to live – and an inspiring place to work.

Actor Christopher Reeve once said, “Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary.” These words perfectly capture the spirit of Brandon Moore, a bus driver at Atria Willow Park, who was recently honored with the Texas Assisted Living Association’s (TALA) Hero Award in the Hospitality/Administrative Support category. Each year, TALA recognizes individuals who go above and beyond in serving older adults, and Brandon is one of those remarkable honorees. He brings joy, laughter and genuine connection to every ride. His warmth, kindness and sense of humor have made him not only a valued team member but also a trusted friend to the residents he serves. More Than Transportation For the residents at Atria Willow Park, a journey with Brandon is more than a trip from point A to point B. It’s an opportunity for genuine connection. As one resident shares, “Brandon is patient with us and is wonderful. He truly enjoys being with us, and we love him.” Whether he’s carefully helping residents board the bus, ensuring timely arrivals or offering a kind word, Brandon consistently goes above and beyond for those he serves.

For Kryselle Tolentino, Engage Life Program Instructor at Atria Willow Glen, connecting with residents isn’t just part of her job – it’s what she loves most. That passion was recognized in a big way when she received Atria’s Exceptional Service Award, our highest honor for team members who go above and beyond. “I was speechless,” Kryselle says. “I just kept saying, ‘Thank you for seeing me.’ Because this is who I really am – the energy, the joy for the work.
