      Candidature

J'ai postulé via une agence de recrutement. Le processus a pris plus de 4 mois. J'ai passé un entretien chez bp en août 2023

      Entretien

Worst interviewing experience I have ever had in my 20+ years of software development experience that spanned 7+ countries and multiple FAANG+ companies in addition to startups. So to start, the process started on June 30th of 2023 until I ended it on November 6th of 2023. Yes, it took about 4.5 months and was still ongoing! So things started smoothly by me being approached by an external talent sourcer who got a copy of my resume and submitted it to BP and I have the first screening interview scheduled about 10 days later, I passed and got the results in 2 days. Until that point, everything was smooth and nice. Then it went downhill from this point. So my first loop took about a month later to schedule. The 5 loops took 3 weeks to complete, then I waited for about 2 more weeks for the results and then went through another interview with an external entity that does some sort of business psychology to find the best fit (this was actually a very cool and successful idea). Then it went dead for 1.5 months without knowing whether I passed or not. Technically I was told that I passed all interviews with flying colors but I had no clue whether I would be getting an offer or not. The official explanation is that the company didn't have the budget approved and they were in the middle of getting that done. So aside from the fact that in my entire career hiring has always been Budget first then go hire, and it's completely mind boggling to find a company with BP size that does hiring first then budget, the fact it takes 1.5 months without resolution, was a HUGE RED FLAG that should have made me decide to pull out immediately, but to my mistake, I continued to wait. Later on when I said that I don't want to continue, they scheduled a meeting between me and one of the VPs to discuss a potential position. They came to me with a position of Director of Engineering for B2B business. To be honest, the position was my dream job, it checks everything single thing I care about (that's why I said earlier that this process of external business psychology was very cool), I talked to the VP who told me that he would be speaking with the CTO immediately after our call to tell her that we filled the position and to move with the offer. At this phase, I expected to get that offer the same night, but waited for another day and then nothing. So I decided to ask the recruiters for another thing: Is travel required for this new job? And if yes, to which destinations? I was asking mainly because I have a personal problem that prevents me from ever wanting to travel to US The answer came back that I "may" need to travel once a quarter to several destinations around the world, listing two cities in the US among those. So I said that I am fine traveling anywhere in the world except for the US, but I am fine to change my working hours to match the US when that is needed. How long did it take them to come back to me whether this is ok or not? Actually they never did! It took about 2 weeks from that moment until I pulled out without getting an answer to that question. They kept promising to come back "in the next 24 hours" which never happened! They also kept digging into the details of the "personal problem" which was irrelevant because it's either a "deal breaking" requirement or not. I don't expect a company to come and solve my personal problem nor am I comfortable sharing that! But I shared that anyway and still, nothing! The funny thing is that travel was not mentioned even once during the entire period that lasted 4.5 months. Not even once I was told that I would be traveling anywhere! They don't even know what kind of passport I have (only that I am in the UK on a work visa) and I expect if US was that important to be part of the job, then at least they should have asked whether I am holding a passport that can receive US visa or not ages ago before wasting my time and the time of 5 different execs on all those endless interviews! I was not initially planning to publish this review here on glassdoor. I sent them an email with my feedback in order to give them a chance to clean that mess internally but I never received a reply back or even a thank you note but instead, all I received after spending all that time is an automated email stating that my application has been withdrawn! So didn't even bother sending me a personalised email saying something like "Sorry we have made you wait all of that time" or even "Sorry that it didn't work", so even taking a single minute to write a personalised email for someone who was about to join their company as a Director, was too much to happen! Very shameful and disrespectful! Funny thing I found out later that I interviewed with them about 3 years ago, only had one interview and then was ghosted without any feedback or responses. So clearly it's a pattern!
