I took a 45min train trip to SF for a scheduled interview with the network team for a contract position. I arrived on time, and met the hiring manager just enough to tell me that he was double booked before he headed off to his meeting. I was then interviewed by a network engineer, who doesn’t seem to know what to do since the person who does the actual hiring is not present. He asked me to go to the board, and write a standard ACL to secure a server on ports 80 and 443, and he was serious about me!! You kidding me? I told him we use extended ACLs for that purpose. I was just shocked. No one knows everything, but don’t ask someone unless you really know it. This interview was a total waste of time. Nothing good came out of this experience…
