I was interviewed for a job they had detailed on a timeline requiring 40 hours a week for 52 weeks to design a new product.
Meanwhile they also required 10 to 20 hours a week of work time to support the production of their existing product.
However, their hiring process had been delayed, so by the time they interviewed me, they were already 6 months from their completion date but with no work having been completed at that time.
I asked if the completion date would be changed to 12 months from my start date. The answer was no.
I pointed out that to complete 52 weeks of full time 40 hours a week of work in only half that time would of course require working 80 hours a week.
I also pointed out that the requirement to support existing production 10 to 20 hours a week would then result in 90 to 100 hour work weeks during the first 6 months of employment.
The hiring manager would not respond to my concerns, he changed the subject rather than addressing my concern about working 90 to 100 hours a week.
By the way, the salary was in no way anywhere consistent with that level of employee commitment to the job. Of course this was for a salaried position with no overtime payment, so in effect the hourly rate would be cut by more than half when working a 100 hour week.
