I was really excited to get an initial phone screen interview from Wise 1 week after my online application. Prior to the interview, the recruiter sent over a few collaterals detailing the overall process and culture book of the company. It felt promising and after reading some employee spotlight articles from the company, I was hyped.
However, the actual phone screen interview experience felt terribly underwhelming. Firstly, the recruiter spoke like she was just trying to rush through a bunch of questions. It felt cold and uninviting. She was also slightly dismissive and impatient with some of my answers, which seemed unprofessional.
To be fair, the questions were reasonably challenging and I appreciate the rigor.
However, some of the questions definitely do not set up the interviewee for success. For example, the actual role and team was not explicitly mentioned in the JD and only revealed to me on the call itself, followed by a question to describe why I am suited for a role in that specific team. I would have appreciated the information being disclosed earlier so that I could have some time to do some research.
Ultimately, I appreciate the team notifying me of the rejection approx. 1 week after the initial interview but I really wished I had a much more enjoyable first impression.
