      Entretien

I interviewed a few years ago and was flabbergasted after the experience. The initial process ran wonderfully, I had an hour interview with their HR team who were lovely, aced the working test (they even said no one had completed all of it as before) and things we're looking positive. The next day I got a call saying their CEO John was in town and wanted to meet - I reshuffled my day and headed straight in. From there things went downhill very quickly – During my one-on-one, John came across very condescending, asking irrelevant and inappropriate questions (for example when I noted my Whānau immigrants to NZ he then proceeded to probe “if I cried” when my parents moved back, hyper fixating on things almost as if he was trying to upset/me or make me uncomfortable. He also fixated on how I would deal with customer complaints, which was something I was already very experienced in, and I had worked if frontline roles dealing with high pressure, safety risks so confrontation was not new to me. He continued to quiz me, interrupting every few seconds – correcting etc. He then proceeded to give me about 2 minutes (he timed it) with one of the motorhome technicians to show me the functionality and then explain everything back to him – again I aced this, but he went back to fixating on what seemed irrelevant to the role. The motorhome tech was lovely and even quietly apologised said to me that “John can be intense” – the rest of the team seemed wonderful, but John absolutely did not handle that day professionally or even reasonably. I would have had no issue if he’d simply felt I wasn’t what he was looking for, but the inappropriateness of his interview ‘style’ was honestly enough to make me never go near that company again.
