The team itself was nice and the interviews were fair. I was excited to possibly work there after meeting everyone and being told by the hiring manager and recruiter that the team enjoyed talking with me. They sold me on the position and strung me along past 6 rounds (phone screen, system design, data modeling, talk with VP, and talk with hiring manager), providing positive feedback at every stage along the way and hinting that they would make an offer. I get an e-mail just before Thanksgiving telling me that actually, despite all the positive feedback, a candidate that was ahead of me accepted the offer they had out to them. This offer must have been out while I was interviewing with the VP and hiring manager and even when they decided to proceed to those last two interviews. Instead of being transparent that there was another candidate with an offer out, they had me go through those last few interviews and provided false hope. I even cancelled some other interviews ahead of the holidays thinking this role was a great fit for me. Usually companies are transparent about those things so that’s a bit of a red flag.
