      Entretien pour Senior Software Engineer

      8 mai 2017
      Candidat à l'entretien anonyme
      San Francisco, CA
      Offre refusée
      Expérience négative
      Entretien moyen

      Candidature

J'ai postulé en personne. J'ai passé un entretien chez VigLink (San Francisco, CA) en avr. 2017

      Entretien

One Phone interview (mostly regarding background followed by basic technical question) followed by a mini project related to data science (extract basic insights from data using any technology, basic). Onsight interview started early morning and ended at 3PM (no lunch :( ), it was 4 interviews, two focused on problem solving (General questions from 'cracking the coding book') and design (constructing pipelines), 1 was focused on mapreduce (data science) and last was with senior member of the team which was mostly behavioral (though there was a whiteboard coding session). After few days, I was interviewed by the CEO onsite, which was mostly regarding background etc. After all the reference checks (which were extremely positive), I was told that they want to hire me, and a senior member of engineering called me to share the offer details. This is the part where everything goes wrong. They offered me a junior role and salary was way too low, 30K lower than the average salary for that particular role+experience in SFO, lower than what they pay to current employees). It shocked me because I interviewed for a senior role and had the qualifications (multiple certifications, relevant experience, 7 years), and yet they didn’t share any particular reason for the change, at one point they were not even sure what role they advertised. Later a source informed me about an unusual last minute change in the offer (senior to junior) by a senior member. In the end, there were too many red flags (discussing offer was like bargaining 500$ or 1000$,,,) so it was a pass for me even though I was jobless at the time, loss of time and effort and one of a kind experience.

      Employé (anonyme)
      Denver, CO
      Offre acceptée
      Expérience positive
      Entretien difficile

      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. J'ai passé un entretien chez VigLink (Denver, CO)

      Entretien

Initially screened by a local recruiter. Then had a one-hour tech interview and introduction with the hiring manager. This was followed by a half-day on-site interview at their location. Over the next few days, I had over-the-phone and video conference interviews with the President, VP of Engineering, and one other developer in the group I was interviewing for.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

Tough, but fair algorithmic type questions. Nothing that couldn't be answered in the time given with the proper amount of preparation. I had spent many hours over the past several months on sites like HackerRank to prepare for interviews. Also asked basic design questions related to their domain. Lots of questions about what areas/APIs I had experience with.

      Entretien pour Senior Software Engineer

      23 juin 2017
      Candidat à l'entretien anonyme

      Aucune offre
      Expérience négative
      Entretien facile

      Candidature

J'ai postulé via un recruteur. J'ai passé un entretien chez VigLink (San Francisco, CA) en juin 2017

      Entretien

Recruiter contacted me that VigLink wants to hire and my profile matches their expectation. Then had a quick phone interview with their VP of engineering where two basic questions were asked (factorial along with performance improvements etc) and some talk about work, project and VigLink. Later no response from them, so followed up and was sent an email saying I am selected for OnSite so filled availability. Reached to onsite where I felt that people were nice, with positive attitude and helping. I had 4 rounds of interview in which, few algorithm questions along with design questions were asked. The last round was little bit tricky but with hints from interviewer nailed that as well. (I was very much positive that interview went fine and will get an offer) After that again no response from them, so reached out and was told that VigLink would like to have second round of Onsite with CTO and VP of engineering. And when I clicked on the link the next day, it said "there is no need to select slots, work with your recruiter". So, I sensed that position was filled so replied asking that if position was filled but never received a response back. If VigLink is reading this then few notes for you, 1. Every candidate who gets interviewed sets aside some time from their schedule for interview. In return, what is expected is to show some professional courtesy in giving them regular updates. (This shows that teams are very disconnected and one of the factors to evaluate company) 2. If decision is already made to hire other employee then it's okay it's not end of the world. But again expectation is to provide communication clearly to the candidate. I am little frustrated (not because I was not selected) but with the overall interview process. It appears that they need to respect other candidate's time, provide better communication and set proper expectations.
