I had an interview for a Software Engineer II spot at Vertafore. Once I completed the cognitive testing they brought me in for a technical interview. When I got there the team said, 'you are here for the SE III position right?'. I replied, 'no the recruiter told me it was for a level II spot.' They stated that they were only hiring for level III roles and that I must be mistaken. I immediately got nervous and then proceeded to have a pretty rough interview. The whiteboarding questions are reasonable and not that difficult, but I was definitely thrown off by the position placement. Something else that seemed odd was that prior to the interview they said, 'this role has a starting rate of $74,500, is that okay with you.' Usually, there is some kind of negotiation in the offer process. Honestly, 75K for an SE III spot is kind of on the low side, especially in Denver. I would recommend seeking out other opportunities. I ended up with an SE III position that paid $95K after this interview.
