Please read this review since the company is massively hiring for sales engineers currently in October 2020.
Recruiting is a lie. 100% a lie. Recruiter will tell you anything to get you to go through an interview. As to say if you book a deal you get direct commission. Which is absolutely not true at all. You have a quota, from that quota you get commission. Ridiculous. They’ll also tell you that you get promoted within a year. Not true as well since in the second part of the interview the director himself will tell you it takes about 2-2.5 years to get promoted. The recruiter will also tell you that quota numbers are so good that everyone hits goal and hits multipliers, this is also not true since it’s stated that numbers have gone up because what used to be a quota for 3 states is now for one state. Recruiter will also give you a study guide for the next interview with the director, more on that in the next section,
Next interview is with the director of solutions engineering. Very holier than thou attitude, and frat like mentality. He’ll ask about your background and what you’re doing. You’re also expected to be on video, while he’s not. He doesn’t really care for your background, can hear it in the tone. After that chit chat is over, he’ll ask to dive into technical questions that
are NOT ON THE STUDY GUIDE. These questions:
1. NAT and PAT, how does it work and how does a firewall know on the ingress how to send the information back to the host since multiple private address are translated into a singular public address.
2. How does ARP work, you can answer this flawlessly and it still won’t be sufficient for him. He’ll even question your reasoning when there is nothing to question. Some people may say that it’s to see how you think, no it’s not that at all. He just thinks he knows more than you. Hence the holier than thou.
3. HTTPS and how does that work, public key vs private key, self sign on vs private certificate. Can answer this correctly also, but if it’s not in his exact verbiage, he doesn’t care. It’ll be an “ok answer”
4. What port number is HTTPS and HTTP, who the hell has this memorized if they’re not taking a networking exam?? I personally don’t because I don’t talk to customers about port numbers.
These questions are not on the study guide so you get blind sided. Do not believe the recruiters. Do your own research, be it here, asking people who have worked at Verkada, are working there or have interviewed there.
He’ll take up most of the time talking about how Verkada is a rocket ship and boasting about it. But you have to think as a startup there are multiple issues that are not perfect. As always do your due diligence.
