Believe the negative reviews! There are lots of negative experiences posted here already, and this review will match that sentiment.
I will say the initial phone screen went smoothly. I connected with a recruiter who gave a company overview and asked me general questions about myself, my quota achievements, what I'm looking for in a new opportunity, and why I'm interested in the role. Conversation went well and I was told I'd be put through to the next round.
I didn't hear back for a couple days so I followed up with the recruiter. She got back to me and then helped set up the call with a manager. No big deal -- so far, so good.
Here's what changed my mind about the company:
The manager was completely disengaged from the moment I picked up. He had low energy, sounded very monotone, and was not talkative. It came across extremely rude.
He asked me a few questions (probably just reading down a list) and after my responses, I was waiting for some acknowledgement that he was listening. Instead he just read down the list to the next question.
Then it was my turn to ask questions. One of his answers was literally "it depends", which pretty much gave me NO insight to the answer, so I challenged him to clarify what he meant by that answer. I was met with another one or two-worded response. I asked a couple more questions and was met with the same abrupt answers.
I still thought maybe I'd try to gauge his thoughts, so as I was wrapping up, I asked him if I could clarify anything on my end or if he felt good about moving me forward. He said there's nothing to clarify on my end, and that I will hear back from my recruiter on next steps.
A few days later, to no surprise, I was told they were not going to move forward.
Conclusion:
Verkada will have a huge talent pool to choose from. Their product is actually good. Maybe interviewing doesn't seem as exciting as managing your current team or closing deals, but if you're going to act like you're forced into a 20-30 minute interview and already know you're not going to listen to me or even answer my questions, save your time and my time and put it to better use.
