I feel conned. After finding out about Vector Marketing by searching "Marketing" jobs on Monster.com, I went and applied on-line and got a phone call immediately. I was a little skeptical about the position so I asked the receptionist who called if this was a sales position and she said "It is, but it isn't". An interview was set up for later that same day as I was intrigued enough to learn more about the company. I was asked to dress professionally and entered a conference room with 4 other people and a table that had promotional material laid out all over it. I was the second person called to the back which is where it was confirmed: This is a job doing door-to-door knife sales for Cutco, they pay you for the hours that you present and not for the hours you don't. "The room for advancement is huge!" which would be GREAT for a high school graduate but not ideal for a recent college graduate like me. I said that the vulnerability of the pay scheme is not something I was comfortable with and that I would not like to pursue this opportunity. She put up a little fight, throwing commission, flexible hours and opportunities for future advancement (after a few months) at me but I said no thanks and left.
