After the initial resume submission and acceptance letter, there were 4 more steps before being officially hired.
1) Set up interview and demo lesson.
VIPKID will send PPT with directions on each slide of how to teach each slide. The actual interview part of the call is only a brief question on your education background the rest of the time is for the demo lesson. Check out Youtube videos for ideas on how to teach ESL students using TPR and how to use props. Talk slowly, use hand motions, and keep to simple instructions.
2) Teacher prep material! This step was a surprise to me, as it was 6+ hours of material to go over and they only give you 2 days to complete it after your initial interview. I skimmed it and took the test. A lot of the information was helpful and I saved it all to refer back to later. You can take the test again so thats why I skimmed and then took the test!
3) If you pass this part of the interview process you will then have to sign up for a mock lesson with a mentor teacher. My mentor teacher was very kind and helpful. Watch your time on each slide, i went over but she understood and didn't mark me down for it. She/he will ask you what you thought went well and what you could improve on so be reflective. The instructions say props are not required but every YouTube video I watched suggested props. Watch the YouTube Videos for ideas! They may ask you to do a second mock interview, I was prepared for that to be the case but didn't end up needing to do one.
4) Paperwork! This was another surprise, I only had 12 hours to get my paperwork in after I did my mock lesson in order to get an incentive. I got 3 calls from the recruiter and several emails in that time. So get all this information gathered BEFORE your mock lesson. Once the paper work is uploaded then you complete a little bio about yourself with an introduction video 15 secs. Again YouTube ideas on how to be creative with this.
The whole process was a lot more involved than I expected but overall was not a difficult process. Definitely take the time to read materials and suggestions online. Had I not watched YouTube video examples I would not have done as well.

It was easy an straightforward. 1 interview and 2 mock classes to pass. They offer a contract for a year with option to renew after 1st contract is over. Overall the process last for about 2 weeks from the time you apply unless you are waitlisted.
