A recruiter introduced me to the company, as I had never heard of this company before. The interview started with a phone screen. I moved onto meeting with my potential manager which went well. Everything was clear from the beginning, what my interview process would look like, what the comp range was like, and more specifically, what the expectations of the role was. <- this is key for me, because a lot of hiring managers give wishy-washy answers and don’t expose the real problems or gaps that the role is trying to solve, or try to hide the reasons the last guy left. In this case, I felt that description of the role and answers to any questions that I had were adequate (and now that I work here, everything I was told in each interview proved to be true)
I then had two more interviews that tested my knowledge of PMO and were more situational type questions, which is typical for TPM roles.
I then got to finish my interviews off by meeting the CEO. This Interview was more like a frank conversation. However, he asked me about how I place myself with respect the their company values. Things that I already align to personally, like accountability, ownership and urgency, all traits that a program manager should have any way, but I appreciated knowing that this company valued them too, right from the get-go. I think this must have been my favourite part about the interview process, I’ve never met a CEO that was so chill, but also extremely professional, and good at his job. Another thing to note (and maybe this is the best part about this) is that, they do this thing here where every so often, the CEO will book a coffee meeting with you, and in my case, our first coffee meeting he remembered the conversation we had in my interview, 2 months prior!!! Insane!! Most CEOs can’t even remember names.
Finally my interview closed with a negotiation of the details of my contract, title, salary, start date, etc. Which aligned to initial conversations I had with my recruiter.
In general, having gone from not knowing a single thing about this company to making a life changing decision to join, was due to all the aspects I experienced in my interviews here. Really happy with my decision to join and now I love my job.
