i applied for several internship positions in united nations HQ in new york through their career system imspira. some of them get back to me in 3 months and ask for an interview. i did all the interviews and all of them eventually gave me a full time internship offer. the position i eventually choose to go is in the Secretary building which is the best building among all. other buildings such as DC-1 which across the street is pretty old and dark.
it's a simple interview that i did not even prepare for anything. it was a phone interview. four people were on the phone in the other side and ask some very general questions like your parents' friends would ask you. they ask about my education and graduate school, and my past internship experience. they also ask me my future plan after the internship, at this point i feel like they like me and they want me for this position. few days later the HR emailed me and ask me for my paperwork and ID and give me the full time internship offer.
some important point i think are critical to get an offer: you need to commit a full time work here. this question is asked in all of my interviews. they want someone who can work and be here as a regular employee, if you still have school to go and can only come to the office for three days or so, they wouldn't like that and it will not work out well. if you only have class in the later afternoon it should be fine to leave an hour early.
another thing you need to live not too far from office and i was also asked about this because sometimes you need to come here in an irregular hour.
my boss is very patient and willing to explain things i don't know of.
very nice experience and not difficult.
