First, applicants take an aptitude test and are given an initial interview. I was interviewed in Los Angeles. The test is timed and the interview is brief and efficient.
The second interview was conducted in Roseville, CA. I live in San Diego, and Union Pacific paid for my ticket to fly to Roseville as well as my hotel fare. The interview consisted of a panel of 5 interviewers. The group was very professional and asked direct questions that seemed relevant to the position. I really like this company, felt the interview went well and like the people who interviewed me, but I was eliminated from consideration at this interview stage. I'm not sure why, but it was a good experience and Union Pacific strikes me as a very professional company.
1) Take 2 online exams (1 personality, 1 logical) Which took a couple hours and was timed. These were medium difficulty, be sure to take your time on these.
2) A virtual 1-on-1 with a Senior Recruiter asking scenario questions in STAR format. They decide within a few days whether you move on to the second interview. approx. 30 mins
3) A virtual 3-on-1 panel interview with hiring manager and a facility manager that dig into leadership and scenario questions. STAR format. approx. 30 mins
Next, within a week you receive a formal offer.
Finally, the background check and medical exam. (Whole process took about 1 month from application to offer)

The whole process involved 3 major steps: the aptitude test, the first round interview, and the second round interview. The aptitude test wasn't difficult, it mostly tested logic and people skills. The first interview was very conversational and I was able to ask lots of questions. The second round interview was a bit more panel styled, so I was answering questions from 3 different people. They were mostly about my experiences in leadership and in past working experiences.
