Thank you for the feedback on your interview with us. We would just like to clarify on one aspect of your review, so that both you and others understand the process.
On some occasions, when we like the attributes of a potential hire, but aren’t 100% sure about their abilities, we do ask them to mark up a comp for us. This helps us to determine if the candidate has the skills needed for the job they’re applying for, and to help us see how they think too. This is usually important when we don’t see enough examples in their portfolio, or examples of their work to get a grasp on their talents.
The comps that we provide are either for sites that we’ve already built or comps that won’t be otherwise used. We would never request a candidate do our work for us, and not compensate them for a work product that was used for a client.
