I had a strange experience with a company called Toptal. An HR representative reached out to me on LinkedIn, saying there was a good opportunity and scheduled an HR interview. She even sent a confirmation for the meeting. I joined the meeting at the scheduled time, but no one showed up. A while later, someone else from the company emailed me to apologize and asked me to choose another time. I agreed and picked a new time. Then, a different person called me for the interview. The call barely lasted a minute—I didn’t even get the chance to introduce myself. She spoke briefly, then asked, “You’re from Egypt?” I said yes… and the call was suddenly disconnected. I thought it was a network issue at first, so I followed up by email—no response. I messaged her on LinkedIn, and it seems she blocked me. I’m honestly just confused about what happened. Are HR people like this everywhere, or is this some kind of strange exception? It felt very unprofessional—especially coming from a company that’s supposed to be well-established. Can someone explain what could lead to behavior like this?
