This has been one of the most unprofessional, disrespectful processes I have ever experienced, which is saying a LOT. The incompetence and unprofessionalism demonstrated by the recruiter were truly astounding. I feel compelled to share my experience so that others can avoid wasting their time and energy on such a poorly managed hiring process. First and foremost, the scheduling of the initial phone call was an absolute nightmare. The recruiter took forever to respond (almost a month), leaving me hanging for what felt like an eternity. Not only did they fail to meet the agreed-upon timeline, but they also neglected to provide any reasonable explanation or apology for the delay. It was evident that they had no regard for my time and the importance of punctuality. They also scheduled the phone screen on a federal holiday. To make matters worse, the recruiter never bothered to actually make the scheduled phone call. Despite confirming the time and date, I anxiously waited by the phone and kept my schedule clear, only to be met with silence. No call ever came through, and no attempt was made to reach out to me to explain or apologize for the oversight. It was an utter display of unprofessionalism and a complete waste of my time and energy. Feeling frustrated and seeking clarification, I promptly sent a follow-up email to inquire about the situation. Regrettably, I received no response whatsoever. Not a single word acknowledging their mistake or expressing any interest in rectifying the situation. The recruiter's complete disregard for basic courtesy and professionalism is simply inexcusable. This entire interview process left me questioning the competence and integrity of the company. If they can't handle a simple phone call or respond to a follow-up email, how can I trust them to be responsible and reliable in their day-to-day operations? It is evident that their hiring process lacks structure and proper communication protocols, which raises serious doubts about their overall organizational efficiency. I am so unbelievably disappointed in Toast, as I was excited to interview given all the good reviews I’ve read.

      Question 1

Literally nothing because they never bothered to call after setting up the interview or respond to a follow up email, let alone reach out and apologize to begin with.

This was a very disappointing review to read, and I am so sorry that this was your experience with Toast. This is far from the standards we hold ourselves to, as our goal is always to offer an organized, insightful candidate experience. I will be sure to share this review with my team so that we can do better moving forward. If you have any additional feedback to share, please reach out to me directly on LinkedIn. - Eric Polkow, Director of TA, R&D

Fine - just a bit more dragged out than I'd like. Team seemed a bit more focused on the job at hand than passion for the company. Many rounds + presentation.

There was one uninspired convo with a product lead, answering some questions on how to skim margin off restaurant operators. Asking questions in-return revealed a lack of any inspiring vision for the product - had to field the most generic answers copied from some corpo book - learned absolutely nothing (learning per unit of time as low as the stock price).

Cleared 4-5 rounds with them. Had good discussions with their DoP and engineering folks. The final round was with their India site leader. She is someone they hired from Amazon. She asked me what I was looking for in my next stint. Amongst other things, I mentioned that I am also looking for some resemblance of a work life balance (for context I was working in a start up where I had not taken a day off in last 14 months, no Saturdays , no Sundays). The moment I said this, she responded with sarcasm, "that oh so you want to join here just so that you can chill out". I knew, I didn't want to work for such a leader. So I just managed to somehow thank her for her time and get off the call. I want to say a lot more on the topic, but I will leave it up to karma to give the "leader" her due.
