From reading other reviews, I was expecting a lengthy process, which was fine. The initial phone screen was great - a really friendly recruiter, who seemed very interested in our conversation. The interview with the the hiring manager was less so. On leaving the call, I knew that I had been unsuccessful. I have accepted another offer elsewhere, so this is not sour grapes, but I honestly do not think that the manager could have showed less interest in the interview if she had tried. It was clearly a box-ticking exercise, and I really felt as though it was a waste of both of our times. The rejection, when it came, was unsurprising, though the feedback was so generic that it was useless. I honestly think that if you take the time to prepare for an interview, the bare minimum you should be able to expect is some feedback that isn’t just a template send to all unsuccessful applicants.

Situational questions in line with the position and company values.
Thank you for sharing this feedback. We know how much time and effort goes into the interview process, and I imagine it was very frustrating to feel as though your interviewer was not engaged. I will be sure to share this feedback with my team, as this is far from the candidate experience we aim to provide. I wish you the best of luck in your new role. - Kelsey O'Donnell, Manager, Talent Acquisition

The interview process at Toast was several rounds of interviews; starting with recruiting, hiring manager, team members, and Senior Leadership. Although this made for a lengthy process, meeting with multiple members of the organization allowed me to learn more about the company and position from multiple perspectives. It also helped that everyone was so warm and welcoming, making the process less "scary"/transactional and more inviting/conversational

One of the best interview processes I've ever had. There were 3 interviews: one with the department head and two with other managers that would be my teammates.
The questions were intuitive and management style focused. Toast has a very specific type of manager they seem to be looking for: empathetic, fair, and organized, with a passion for workplace ethics. They're looking for someone who at their core wants to provide their subordinates with support and encourage them to work towards promotion and professional development within the company.
That sort of management style matched my previous experience well, so I just answered the questions honestly and showed them a bit of my previous work.
The recruiter was responsive, handled call time with me efficiently and professionally and when it came time to give me an offer I was so confident about what I knew about the company and had such a nice time talking to my prospective teammates that I accepted the offer immediately.
