The process took many months. Weeks would go by in between with no communication or updates. No employer (especially a nonprofit) should be conducting more than 3-4 rounds of interviews for a non-exec level role.
This process was about 7 different interviews and rounds plus an assignment that took many hours. That's an enormous amount of time and unpaid labor for anyone. If they can't find the right candidate after that many months and interviews, they are looking for a unicorn.
The interview process probably gives a glimpse into the lack of respect for employees and the disorganization internally as well. It's not very efficient to spend that much of your staff's time during the hiring process, especially when the job market is this hot. It must be hard for them to fill roles as many candidates won't hold out for that long of a process.
I went through an extensive interview process that lasted over four months. This included numerous calls, video interviews, and debriefs with the recruiter, as well as a multi-part, 5-day research and writing assignment. The interview process was such a time investment that it almost felt like a second job - the research assignment alone would have been over $2K worth of work if they had contracted it out. After all of that, I received a 2-minute rejection phone call from the recruiter. I never heard from anyone from the org again, and my requests for feedback were ignored. They do great work, but the interview process was beyond disheartening; I had to take a break from my job search to recover. At a bare minimum, I expected more consideration, especially from an org that focuses on mental health.

Disheartening. For a position that is so crucial to the organization’s mission, and for such an important organization, it took over three months to complete the interview process. And, after being declined, I learned they still don’t have a hire. Truly, it sounds as if the young CPO doesn’t know what she’s doing. FYI On another note, the headhunter was amazing.
Very convoluted - multiple interviews with the recruiter, and 4 interviews with the main Trevor team - including 3 group interviews and a strategy exercise. A lot of time and work. - - - - - - - -- - -
