30 min first round interview with Senior Economist to gauge background and interest. Hour-long second round interview with Lead Scientist and another panel member. Behavioral questions in a discussion-environment - the panel comprised very nice people who showed genuine interest. Third round asked for a writing exercise (2 behavioral questions to understand work approach, professional strengths/weaknesses). Next step was a reference evaluation. A week later, I was asked if I am authorized to work in the US and if I would require sponsorship in the future. Informed them that I have a 3-year work permit under STEM OPT. Waited another week, found out I was rejected, no reason given. Asked for feedback - was told it was due to “minor differences in skill sets”. Not sure how I made it to the final round, passed reference checks, was asked about employment authorization and was THEN rejected for unknown skill differences.
