      Entretien

Interviewed w/ the founder. Do not expect any structured meeting of any kind. Her ideal teacher must have recent experience in banking/finance, have a degree in the field, and experience teaching executives. My distinct impression was that she was primarily interested in finding someone young that she liked and could mold - nothing wrong with that- rather than someone more mature and with decades of experience in business and education at the highest level. I got that distinct impression as she twisted herself into a pretzel to find an excuse to wiggle out of the meeting with a veneer of politeness I recognized all too well. She was unable to find a single skill I possessed that was unsuitable for the job. The best she could do was say "old" like a mantra, incapable of demonstrating how mathematics and finance had changed so radically in the past 5-10 years. Did she try to imply I was too old for the job? It's a possibility, but I don't care. The truth is that I pitied her more than anything. Could she have felt insecurity? Perhaps, though, it's not my role to judge her. Strangely enough, I'm glad I didn't get the job. I don't know why I feel that way. Blessing in disguise? Maybe. At any rate, I wish her all the best. She'll eventually find the right person for her organization. After all, she's been incredibly successful and knows her clients best. If her clients are rich old guys, it makes sense that she would want someone young. What powerful old man wouldn't want to have some pretty face looking at his insanely boring PowerPoint? LoL! I can only imagine... :) :) :) I wish her well. Seriously. We were not a good fit personality-wise. As for me, when one door closes, one window soon opens somewhere. That's how life works.

I am writing this response personally, as the CEO and founder of The Language Grid. While I respect that not every interview results in a match, I take serious issue with the tone and content of your comments. Suggesting that I, or this company, would select candidates based on appearance or age is not only false it is offensive, and highly inappropriate. We have a diverse, mixed-gender team of serious professionals, many of whom have decades of experience in business, education, and leadership roles. Our average team member is 48 years old. We do not, and have never, hired based on age or looks. The implication that we would is unacceptable and goes against everything this company stands for. We have a clear diversity and inclusion policy, and we take pride in building a culture based on respect, merit, and performance. Your comments show a profound lack of professionalism and are completely out of line with the values we uphold. It is abundantly clear this was not a cultural fit. I will not be commenting further. Zoe Flaherty, CEO
