Attentions to all applicants -
This company downgrades the title/role even after you have done really well.
I had 3 technical rounds and 1 managerial round.
All technical rounds went really well.
Managerial rounds here are very tricky, and they are looking for tiny reasons to eliminate candidates.
I had a smooth discussion with one of their senior manager (m/f).
45 minutes discussion went smooth.
Received a call from the HR very next day that manager is not happy and they can only offer SDE 2 role instead of SDE 3 which is what I applied for.
HR said that they will give me a chance again at managerial round, and yes it happened... in the same week.
This time discussion was even better and I got to know that manager has given a YES from their side.
BUT ALAS !!!... For some reason after 2 days the HR called and said, since you were rejected initially so we cannot override the decision of manager 1.
The whole process felt like a complete HOAX.
Reasons:
- At the end of the interview I asked about the expectations from the role from manager 1 and manager 2. Both had different definition about SDE 3 position. Hearing which I felt that they don't have any sync in company.
- If manager 2 is willing to hire in their team at SDE 3 role then what problem does other manager have ?
- The manager 1 could not give any feedback what so ever about my shortcomings.
- Upon checking with one of my EX colleagues who had worked in Tesco before, I got to know that this is normal in here. They downgrade people/positions at the end as managers are somewhat finnicky.
Funny thing -
HR said can you join at downgraded role i.e. SDE2 at same salary ?
