Newton’s online assessments are broken into two tests which are each 25 minutes long. The Numerical Interpretation test is quite a mathy based test, and requires creative problem solving. I found the test was similar to the equivalent of a math Olympiad-style question. They say you don’t need to have studied math in university, but you’re unlikely to be able to perform well unless you have recently been practising similar optimisation problems (making this stage quite bias towards engineers). They will send you practice questions, and this is also available online if you do some digging. You can find a link to this by searching: ["Newton" "practice-questions" "ocean"]. The way the questions are structured is with negative marking The Data Interpretation test involves looking at more visually based graphs, flowcharts, and tables to interpret information. In both tests, the time is extremely limited and its virtually impossible to complete all the questions. My advice is to keep calm, and try and take a look at all the questions even if you can’t answer them. There is a trade-off between reading one and moving on (i.e. if you’ve just read a question, then you’ve invested time in it. Don’t get caught up in one that is tricky – some of the questions towards the end of my test were easier than the middle ones). This stage requires you to be on your toes and be able to interpret and solve problems immensely quickly. Do these online assessments when you’re feeling well-rested and alert.
