J'ai postulé via la recommandation d'un employé. J'ai passé un entretien chez Slalom (Austin, TX)
Entretien
I have been interviewing with a bunch of tech companies including Google, Facebook and other big companies. A friend of mine recommended me to Slalom (Austin) and I had couple of technical rounds which I cleared easily.
I had an in-person meeting with the interviewer in Austin.
It was the worst interview I've ever had.
Right off the bat, the interviewer seemed to have the attitude as if they were doing a favor on me by giving me a job. I've been talking to several other companies which pay much better than Slalom and I've always found them to be humble, respectful and felt as if they wanted me to join their company.
Here, it was the opposite. He seemed pretty arrogant about their 7 ?? offices and 4004 employees. I felt as if this would be a job where my creativity wouldn't be valued and I'd just end up being the employee no. 4005.
It felt as if I was interviewing for a position of a Walmart salesperson or a McDonalds counter crew. I asked for a salary which was above their pay range.
They ended up rejecting me. I guess because they pay such low salaries as compared to other tech companies, they want people who'd have nowhere else to go except Slalom.
If you have any other option, I'd recommend to go with that other company. Stay away.
Just for the record, I ended up being hired for a company in Silicon Valley.

Question 1
Usually people who interview you generally start off with asking you about the projects you have done, followed by trying to tie up the common threads in those project. They try to gain a perspective on how you accomplish your goals.
The person I was interviewing at Austin was above all this. His interrogation methods included gems like -
Him: "Tell me about your self!"
Me: <I proceed to provide a basic description for such a basic question>
Him: "I don't feel like I know you very well."
Me: <Roll my eyes!>
Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We regret the negative experience you had interviewing with Slalom and have circled back with the team on this; your review will serve as helpful information towards our efforts to continuously improve. Congratulations on the offer you did receive from the company in Silicon Valley; we wish you the best.

The recruiters were great. However, in my opinion, the tech screeners lost all interest once they saw that I am over 40. Additionally, the tech screening case was sent to me 20 minutes before the interview. To be fair, they might have been trying to gauge how well I can think on my toes, but I found that to be unusual.

First-round with HR, very helpful and friendly.
Two rounds of technical interviews, one is more focused on coding and CS knowledge in general, the other is more conversational with BQ and working experience.

I had a great interview process! Recruiter was very responsive and the people I interviewed with were awesome. I was told I got positive feedback from the interviewers but they aren’t hiring for the position until the find a director for the team. I feel like it was a way to tell me they aren’t interested.
