The interview process involved a screening phone call, a Skype call with a recruiter, followed by another Skype call with the supervisor. The next day, I was invited to Ottawa for a day of interviews which was scheduled a few weeks out. I came with my family and Shopify kindly put us up for a few nights in a hotel to make things easier for us and to give us a chance to get to know Ottawa. The day of one-on-one interviews was a positive experience. Great engaging people who were easy to talk to who all did a great job of representing Shopify. However, the direct supervisor cut his interview short for another meeting (?) over a tremendously awkward lunch where I was left to carry the conversation and find my designated interview room. This signaled to me things weren't going as well as I hoped despite having great meetings with the other interviewers. Needless to say I was disappointed to learn that I didn't get the job a few days later.
Overall, things moved quickly, there was a great deal of communication, and I was made to feel like an important candidate throughout the process (save for the awkward lunch). They hit all the check boxes for a positive recruitment process and other employers of choice can stand to learn a few things from Shopify.
