I applied for the position on a Monday and the same day was emailed a customer support survey. A week later, I had a phone interview. Two weeks after that, an onsite interview. I felt everything was moving at a reasonable pace and all of my contact was friendly and professional. One week after the first onsite interview, I received a request for two writing samples. They followed up with me nine days later. Six days later, another onsite interview. This time, I met with several people and was impressed with all of them ... until I met one of the owners. I don't know if he'd had a bad day, or if he wanted to see how I reacted to unpleasant people or if he just didn't like me but he seemed to have an issue with me as soon as he walked into the conference room. Immediately, he didn't like one of the links on my resume. He took issue that I'd been laid off at the end 2008 even though I'd picked up a contract position that lasted the most of 2009 then moved to Colorado in January 2010 to started my own business until the economy improved. He wanted to know why I thought it'd taken me so long to find a job. Really? I didn't think three months had been that long. If he was thinking since 2008 - had he not been watching the news? He was so unpleasant that I knew there would be no job offer. One of the other people I interviewed with told me they were surprised I wasn't offered the position. If they'd been in the conference room for that last bit with the one owner, I don't think they would have been surprised. By the way, three weeks later, I was hired by another company. Two years later, I'm the General Manager of four locations with another opening soon in Denver and four more planned over the next ten years in San Francisco, CA.
