Applied online and was contacted by email within 24 hours to arrange an interview in person.
This was the strangest and most bizarre interview I have ever had.
I was kept waiting 15 minutes, which would be fine if there were some attempt at apology or explanation.
The CEO had clearly not spent any time on my resume as he immediately set on the fact that I had travelled 80 miles to attend the interview. Before we’d even begun the ‘interview’ he told me that he’d had bad experiences with commuters in the past and did not want to hire someone not living in NYC. So why call me in and have me waste an entire day?
There was no format to the interview and no relevant questioning of my experience. He mostly left loooong and odd pauses as though he had no idea what to ask me. He then took a call on his phone and proceeded to talk for 5 minutes with an acquaintance about nothing in particular. Again, no apology for this. During the call I noticed all the other resumes he’d selected, which were facing me on my side of the desk. Highly inappropriate.
I took the reigns and gave him details of my extensive background and experience for the role, but he didn’t appear to be listening and was reading something on his phone. He then asked me to follow him, at which point I had to follow him to the men’s restroom, wait outside whilst he relieved himself and then follow him back to his office at his beckoning where he left the door open and asked me directly about salary expectations. I insisted on closing the door before having that discussion, which seemed very premature.
The outcome was that he wanted to offer me a commission only position based from home, which I declined even after he repeated it. He felt this would be a good way for me to work my way into the business. No thanks. I asked about the business model, which was, and is, unclear. It became apparent that there’s no clarity on this and only the vaguest of ideas for revenue, which were laughable.
The interview petered out and I left without being walked to the door so had to find my own way out.
Having now read the Glassdoor reviews I’m even more confident that this is not a company I’d ever want to work for or be involved with and the CEO seems rude, incompetent and disrespectful at best.
