Good interview with principal and interview panel, but once it is turned over to HR, everything falls apart. The interview team wants you for your experience but the District Office works as hard as they can to give you as little credit as possible on the salary schedule. They undermine their principals who are trying to get the best teachers for their students. The salary ends up being so low that you can't make a living in the SF Bay Area. Also, most of those who are offered part-time teaching appointments will NOT progress annually on the salary schedule so be sure to ask about that. I would suggest that you get your starting salary in writing before committing with this District.

After a phone screen, you will interview with administration and teachers within the department. This is a panel type interview that will usually last around 15-20 minutes. You also teach a sample lesson: sometimes to an actual class, other times just to the interview panel. You will be given the topic in advance to prepare a lesson, activities, handouts, etc. make sure this lesson is engaging, interactive, and shows your personality. Most departments work closely together so it is important to value collaboration and have a positive attitude toward working with others.
