      Entretien

It was honestly the WORST interview experience I have ever had. I applied online & was called to interview for (what I thought was) a Store Manager position. They had my resume, so I had every reason to think my experience was in line with what they were looking for...they called me, after all. When I arrived, I was surprised that the Store Manager was actually interviewing me, as I thought that's what I was there to talk about. I was also surprised the interview was taking place on the sales floor, sitting in one of the "living rooms" during a busy afternoon. I surprised yet again when he informed me that when they hire assistant store managers, they must be relocatable to be promoted to a store manager position. Again, I was there under the premise that I was interviewing for a store manager position, not assistant. The final surprise was him pushing me towards a commissioned sales position. A few simple screening questions asked over that original phone could have prevented this bad taste I now have for this company and this poor review. I felt like it was an entire "bait & switch" operation. Honestly, it was a bit humiliating. As I look around my home at some of the Rooms To Go pieces I have, it makes me feel bad that I've given this company so much money over the years. I won't again.

      Question 1

I actually don't recall the Store Manager asking me one pertinent question about my skills and what I could bring to the company. After he asked whether or not I was relocatable, things became pointless.

Recruiter emailed me after I applied online for a Store Management opportunity. We set up a day and time for the interview. Was contacted promptly at the proposed time and had a discussion about my past experience and the company overview.

At Rooms To Go, we are very concerned about our employees' well-being, and especially our sales associates. So when we do hire for management, we want to be certain that we hire the right person. One big factor in being considered is whether or not the manager has furniture experience. That's not to say that we won't hire someone who doesn't have furniture experience, however, we will probably try to encourage that person to start on the sales floor, so they understand what our sales associates deal with on a daily basis. This also gives them more credibility as a manager with the sales personnel. We don't want to set anyone up for failure. Hopefully, this makes more sense. If you have retail experience, we are very interested in speaking with you, but having a commission background and furniture experience are very important. If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact the recruiting department and ask for Becky Richards, Recruiting Manager, for further clarification.

Rooms to Go is a scam! I was called to interview for a manager position in Chattanooga but the first question the interviewer asked was if I were open to a sales position because they have not hired outside managers for the past 2 years or so. If you want to be a manager, you must work at least 6 months as a sales person and then apply for an open manager position. I asked if the 6 months were simply a training time where I could move directly into management. The answer was no, I would have to apply like other successful sales people in the company.
