      Entretien

For both positions, initial questions on computer hardware and internet connection were asked apart from a short grammar test and essay question. I was then asked to watch short videos showing how to use the their online tools to caption and transcribe. Afterwards, they asked me to review the rules and standards when doing captions and transcriptions which were several slides long. Some of these were helpful but some were quite confusing and ambiguous. Then I was asked to click on the links that will bring me to their sample video to caption and sample audio to transcribe. Deadline for these were a couple of days from the time I clicked on the link but I managed to complete everything in one night. The video I got was pretty easy to caption while the audio file was a bit tricky though it was short. When I clicked Submit, I received emails thanking me for putting in the effort and that it will usually take around 2-3 weeks before they are able to get back to me after they review my work. The following day I received what appears to be canned emails from Rev telling me that they have "rigorous minimum standards and unfortunately your application did not meet those" and "do not contact Rev regarding this decision, as we are unable to further elaborate on our reasons." This last line appears to me to be quite unprofessional on their part because it feels like I have no right to ask for feedback on the application process and therefore get information on what went wrong and what standards were not met. It is ironic that they even seemed like they were assuring applicants in their website that it'll be okay if it wasn't perfect at first. I'd like to think I did well at least in captioning the video and followed the rules they provided so I'm questioning what portion of the application process was unsatisfactory to them. But with those emails, I guess I'll never know. I've gone through several application processes with other companies where I did not get the job, but I never encountered any potential employer that refused to give me proper feedback and information on why I did not pass. It can make you hope initially that you have a shot at the position because you think you did well based on the guidelines they provided but then afterwards it can leave you feeling like your services were just used for free after receiving those canned emails. It's a pity that their testimonial video highlights them as a company that cares a lot for people when those "rejection" emails appear to communicate otherwise.
