I am a student at a top MBA program. Rise offered a summer internship on the career website of my school. It was presented as an internship for the summer with a VC that is located in Thailand. I applied through the posting and was invited for an interview with HR and the hiring manager a few days later. They presented the VC name as SeaX venture that workers under the umbrella of RISE. After the screening, I was assigned a home task to recommend investing in a certain startup. I worked on this presentation for 2 entire days and in the meanwhile neglected completely my job search o networking. I submitted the presentation and was invited for an additional interview. After the last interview, I was invited for a 30-minute interview with the CEO. 2 days later I was happy to receive an email that announced that I got the job. I asked HR to send me an official letter with the start date and compensation. I received a letter and an additional email where it said that the job is, and I quote: "on a voluntary basis". 3 interviews, one huge presentation, and a posting on the career site none of these suggested that this is unpaid or should I say voluntarily. I called their CEO, he apologized and promised to find a solution. A few hours later I received an email that said that there was a misunderstanding and they wish me the best of luck. I'm posting this because I hope that no one else will fall into that. This is my personal experience but I would suggest staying away from this company.
