Interview plus some quick test your adaptability and understanding to situations and problems related to Game Design and rethinking of the existing ones. They know how to value your responses properly and understood the industry.
J'ai postulé en ligne. Le processus a pris 5 mois. J'ai passé un entretien chez Purple Lamp Studios en août 2019
Entretien
I applied last summer for the position and in October I received a response and a test.
After the test I received a response and request for a Skype interview in December. During this interview I was told that their profile had changed and that they were looking for someone to mostly work on level design with around 4-5 years of experience. This was a bit surprising because the opening mentioned a profile more focused on gameplay and mechanics and the amount of experience mentioned on that profile was also lower (" Developed at least 1 released game...”). They also had an opening for a Senior Game Designer which has the same demands regarding profile and skills except for more experience.
The test I made was not mentioned during the interview or in any email after submitting it. Besides that, the interview was pleasant and pretty standard. They were open about their process and how they envisioned the company and its future which was nice.
At the end of the interview I asked for feedback and their thoughts. Besides my experience being less than what they would have liked it was all positive and I was told I would hear from them since there was a chance for a next step if they could see past my experience.
That interview was the last I have heard from them. I have sent 2-3 mails since then asking for an update, but have not received a response. This is more than three months since I have had the interview.
The Game Designer and Senior Game Designer openings are still on their website at the time of writing this and, last I saw, were still being spread on other job sites with the original experience, gameplay and mechanics focused profile I applied to 8 months ago. There is also no mention of experience on the Game Designer opening besides having worked on at least 1 released game which is a big difference from the 4-5 years of experience they mentioned during the interview.
The fact that they change their demands, which are not reflected in the actual opening then or now, and their lack of communication makes me think this company has zero or very little respect for an applicant's time.
I would suggest anyone to apply to a different company that does appreciate an applicant's time and effort.
