I was contacted by a staffing company to be submitted to Provest for a position of Sr. Network Engineer. I had a phone interview with the hiring manager and an additional person late one afternoon. After about 10-15 minutes of general pseudo-technical questions, the manager said "I've heard enough, let's get this guy in here." The staffing company said that another phone interview scheduled for the next day with another candidate was canceled by the hiring manager and I would go in at that time for the in person. A 1:1 was set up for the next day at 4:30. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a sea of cubicles in the middle of the open hallway between the cubicle sections was the waiting area for visitors. The manager came out 20 minutes late and collected me back to his office. Although he was just reading me my resume the night before, he asked me for a copy, seeing that I had nothing in my hands. I told him I had one in the car if he would like. He proceeded to pull out his file, which contained my resume, and asked me some basic questions. The interview went on for 45 minutes. It seemed obvious to me that he wasn't interested and it later occurred to me that they probably already had a candidate and that's why the interview was scheduled so quickly. Sure enough, I heard through the recruiter that not only was I not prepared because I didn't bring a copy of my resume that he already had a copy of, they had hired a candidate that was referred by an internal employee the next day.
