The recruitment process began with a telephone interview to discuss my current situation and an introduction into what to expect from a career in recruitment. The second stage was an assessment day attended by 10 candidates in total. All members of the team that we met were very welcoming and honest about their experiences and the positives and negatives involved with the job. Although I decided that the position wasn't for me, I appreciated how the day was organised and how comfortable the atmosphere and experience was. Tasks in the day involved 3 group activities and an individual presentation organised before the day. All activities related specifically to recruitment and involved highlighting our current understanding of the recruitment industry, scenarios and a realistic task that would be done on a day-to-day basis. Positives - - All tasks had a purpose as they were relevant and helped to give an insight into the nature of the role/industry. - Different members of team specialising in different areas gave talks to cover the various key areas that Portland Resourcing specialises in. - Atmosphere was very comfortable which allowed candidates to relax and be more like themselves. Negatives - - Two presentations were arranged for the end of the day, although interesting, it made it slightly tiring to sit through especially on the hot day! Maybe they could have been split into different parts of the day. - When individual presentations were happening, there was no order arranged beforehand so it was a little awkward at times when candidates volunteered themselves.
